Off to Convention and a Competition!

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

Just a quick post before I head off down to Canberra for Stampin’ Up! Convention!

For my Convention swaps this year, I thought I would set myself a colour challenge and put some together that aren’t normally used on the same  project!

Here’s my combo:

Kiwi Kiss

Pink Pirouette

Kraft

I made two cards with the combo and chose only one for my Convention swaps. Which one do you think I went with??

Leave a comment on this post with your guess, I’ll put all the names of those who guessed correctly in a hat and draw one out when I get home on Monday. The winner will receive a sample of each of my swaps (I made three different card fronts) in the mail next week.

Just sharing a project we completed at one of our current stampclubs recently. We each made and embellished a couple of Trifold cards. The one above was a sample I had made as you can probably guess by my initial! I love the depth collage stamping gives to a project. It’s fun to create your own unique design by layering your stamped images and ink colours. I think this is my new favourite technique!

Are you looking for someone to stamp with?

Don’t want to host a workshop at your place but would still like to experience all the benefits of being a hostess?

Like to learn some new stamping and scrapbooking techniques at a free monthly class?

Do you want to be able to build up your stamping supplies gradually and learn how to get the best out of what you have bought?

Then STAMP CLUB was designed for you!

I will be starting 2 brand new clubs in July and there are still some spots free if you would like to join us.

What you will get:

*A free Idea Book and catalogue

*A free class each month for club members focussing on a project or technique I wouldn’t normally show at a workshop

*Time out for you to stamp, chat with and get to know other people who love creating just like you!

*Full hostess benefits one month out of the 6 : including a hostess stampset from the new catalogue PLUS additional spending money depending on the total sales for the night when your turn as hostess comes around ;)

Classes are held locally in Wollongong and spots are limited to 6 for each club.
Contact me today at stampin@vanessawebb.net to request an application form and reserve your spot.

Club 1 Monday nights once a month – 3 SPOTS REMAINING!!

Do you recognise the stampset??

It’s the set Good Friend from the new catalogue. I saw a card on Split Coast Stampers using this idea……the artist credits her son with coming up with the idea of using the Birdie stamp as a whale by flipping it the other way, and then using one of the flower stamps as the water spurt. Kids are amazing how they see things from a different perpective.

To accentuate the flower “spurt” I’ve stamped it in Versa Mark, poured on some heat and Stick Powder (you’ll find this on the same page as the new Fine Super Nova Glitter and Sticky Cuts Letters in the new catalogue) heated and then sprinkled with Dazzling Diamonds.

Just another example of the versatility of Stampin’ Up! stamp sets……….

If you’ve discovered another way to use a stampset share it in your comment and post a link to your sample……..we’d love to see what you come up with!

Friends 24-7

I can’t believe this set wasn’t on my wishlist when I first received my catalogue!!

This is just one of the stamps in the set of 6 (on page 81 of the new catalogue) as well as the greeting which is also in the set.

If you haven’t already, you can order or pick up your catalogue from me ($15 including shipping direct to your door, or $10 local pick up).
This stamp is perfect for water-colouring, so I got out my Aqua-Painters (did you know that these have come down to 19.95 in the new catalogue?) which are still my preferred Water Colouring tool…….for those authentic looking brush strokes, nothing beats it!

You may have noticed I’ve chosen some coloured card-stock for my canvas. I liked the idea of starting with a wash of colour in the back ground so I stamped directly onto So Saffron cardstock in Stazon (waterproof ink) before watercolouring the image using the well of ink in the lid of my Tangerine Tango, Riding Red and Kiwi Kiss inkpads. Leaving the ink to dry (you can speed up the process with your Heat Tool) I then added white hilights on the flowers to make them “pop”.
Ingredients used to make this card:

Stamps : Friends 24-7 set

Ink  : Black Stazon ink, Tangerine Tango, Riding Hood Red and Kiwi Kiss Classic Ink Pads

Cardstock : Tangerine Tango, Kiwi Kiss, Kraft, So Saffron cardstock.

Accessories : Stampin’ Dimensionals, Aqua painter, Heat Tool, Scallop Edge Punch and Kiwi Kiss Striped Grosgrain ribbon.
I was pleased with the result……..what do you think?

Twilight Inspired Card

DSC02816_sml.jpg

It’s been raining here today, I’ve been recovering from Laryngitis and not doing too much other than playing with my new goodies from Stampin’ Up!

This card is a result of what happens when you have a little too much time on your hands whilst reading the Twilight series extra slowly so you don’t finish it before the DVD is released!!
Those of you who are Twilight fans will relate to this card. If you are a Twilight fan and a paper-crafter you will know that there is a myriad of websites out there dedicated to both passions……..it’s amazing how many stampers there are who prefer their vampires sparkly- lol!

This card was inspired by the front cover of the first book of the series, hence the Tart and Tangy apple (what do you think Ange??)

Here’s what I’ve used to create this card…..

Stamps : Baroque Background, Friends 24-7, Occasional Greetings, Frames with a Flourish, Tart and Tangy and Defining Alphabet stampsets

Ink : Riding Hood Red (love, love, love this colour…….), Basic Black, Versa Mark
Paper : Ivory Naturals (nice and sturdy for the card base), Very Vanilla (this is ultra-smooth and great for stamping on), Basic Black

Accessories : Sponge Dauber, Paper Snips, Stampin’ Dimensionals, Riding Hood Red Taffeta Ribbon, Mini Glue Dots, Clear Embossing Powder, Powder Pal trays, Heat Tool

Method :

To get the 2-toned, embossed apple just ink up the stamp in Versa Mark then go straight into Riding Hood Red ink, before rolling the edges of the image in Basic Black and then stamp onto Very Vanilla cardstock. Apply Clear Embossing powder over the top and heat to melt. Cut out the apple with Paper Snips and apply to project with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Here’s a close-up :
