Stamping Techniques to Try May Blog Hop – Masking (Washi) Tape Technique

In this month’s Stamping Techniques to Try Blog Hop we are experimenting with the Masking/Painter’s Tape Technique.
I didn’t have any masking tape ……but you want to know a secret? Washi Tape works just as well……as log as you prepare your cardstock adequately and I do have PLENTY of that on hand!
STEP 1 : Prepare your cardstock by wiping over with your Embossing Buddy (it’s good if you can see some of the powder sitting on the surface of your cardstock. Doing this BEFORE you start will help prevent the Washi Tape from sticking).
STEP 2 : Tear off strips of Washi Tape and lay them onto the surface of  your inkpad and carefully smooth down with your finger to pick up the ink on the sticky side.
STEP 3 : Layer each piece down along the entire length of your cardstock and lightly smooth each one down.
STEP 4 : Gently peel off  each strip to reveal the ink underneath. Embellish as desired and add a greeting.
I have used the 5 new InColors that are available this month in the Share What You Love Pre-release :
Blueberry Bushel, Call Me Clover, Grapefruit Grove, Lovely Lipstick and Pineapple Punch! Get the entire new InColor Collection this month and save 10%  – SHOP NOW.

Here is a sample with the Washi Tape Background more visible :

HINT #1 : If using Washi Tape,  make sure you wipe over the entire Cardstock surface with your Embossing Buddy first …..this will prevent your Washi Tape from sticking down too firmly and tearing the card stock when it’s removed.
HINT #2 : Disposable gloves are recommended!
If you want to try this cool technique at home, here is a short video by Mary Fish that shows how to create the back ground using Masking/Painter’s Tape  – REMEMBER you’ll need to add the Embossing Buddy step before laying down the inked up tape if you are using Washi Tape :

Here’s a list of what I’ve used to create my projects above  :
